Filming Down South

We have had an excellent weekend travelling down to Cambridge on the Friday, filming the introduction for a new video to be launched soon.

On the Saturday we set off to Devizes for follow up interviews with Gail and Emily, was lovely seeing them both again. The interviews were excellent, engaging and so informative and inspiring.

On the Sunday we headed to Reading, to meet Stephen Cook, who was running for OCD-UK the 1/2 Reading Marathon. We met after he completed the race, well done too him as it was horrendous conditions and a really inspiring thing to complete.

The interview was excellent and was a real pleasure meeting him. I look forward to meeting up with him in the future.

We was also able to meet up with @mymindoutlined from Twitter, who was really lovely. It has been such a fab weekend being able to meet so many people who I speak to online.

Thanks to everyone who has been involved so far,

Please check out the new photo uploads.

Response to Channel 4’s Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners

This is a video in response to the new series on Channel 4, Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners. This programme has misrepresented OCD, and stereotyped the disorder, something OCD sufferers, OCD-UK and other organisations have tried to overcome for many years.

The initial programme only featured one individual with OCD, but with constant references to OCD, and quotes such as ‘The OCD Team’, Channel 4 have seriously overlooked the effects of this programme.

OCD is not about enjoying cleaning. You do not WANT to clean because you like it, it’s something you feel you HAVE to do in some cases or something bad will happen or because you want to reduce anxiety.

I have included the tweets that were posted on Wednesday night, during and after the broadcast. Some horrified me, with references to wanting this disorder that can ruin lives. There are also tweets from sufferers OCD and others who stating the truth about OCD.

Through this video I intend to get the message through that Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners is NOT about OCD! It is a cleaning programme where people who like to clean, clean. If I can get this through then hopefully it will help rectify some of the damage this problem seems to have already caused.

OCD IS NOT A CLEANING DISORDER. It is far more complex.

Please follow the links at the end of the video if you want more information on OCD, also if your interested in following the process of the documentary. Thank you for watching.

Filming in London, Hatfield and Windsor

Wednesday night Kellie and I travelled down to Cambridge in preparation for the filming over the next few days. Thursday we travelled across to London, where we met Director Jacek Ludwig Scarso of Elastic Theatre – http://www.elastictheatre.com

20130119-230053.jpg

We had chance to film and watch rehearsals for Julius, the second part of the film. It was an excellent experience and really enjoyed using the camera and the theatre lights to get creative images.

20130119-230649.jpg

The first part of Julius was recently presented as a multi-screen film at GV Art Gallery in London, with each screen projected on separate walls and the ceiling, to create an amazing viewing experience. It also joined Living With Me And My OCD in the OCD Texas film festival.

Part one of Julius:

“Julius explores a coming-of-age story of intrusive thoughts and compulsive rituals, fusing theatre, dance and opera. As an adolescent boy in rural Italy learns about the life, times and many lovers of Julius Caesar, he begins to experience intrusive thoughts of himself as a Roman emperor, in bizarre and taboo situations. The characters surrounding Julius are also the protagonists of his obsessions: his Teacher, the Priest that confesses him, his Granny and his closest friend, Brutus.”

The second part of the film is focusing on the other characters. It is certainly a must see!

After viewing the rehearsals we had chance to interview Jacek

about his own personal OCD and directing Julius. He is extremely interesting and talented and I cannot wait to see the second part to his film.

Saturday, today, has been an inspiring day. First, we travelled to Hatfield where we met Nathan Bond. He is a lovely person, it was an excellent interview.

I really enjoyed meeting him and looking forward to keeping in touch. His interview will certainly help other sufferers of OCD.

After Nathan we travelled to Windsor, where we met Nicky Hodges. It was an amazing feeling to see the yellow Living With Me And My OCD wristband alongside the orange OCD UK wristband on her wrist :). Nicky is so lovely and the interview was so inspiring. I really enjoyed meeting her and I look forward to keeping in contact.

Tomorrow we are set to film Joanne Limburg in Cambridge. Im really looking forward to it.

This will end the weekend of filming for the documentary. Next week is full packed for the film, there are four Skype chats to America and one interview in Sheffield.

Please keep following the progress of the film and thank you for all your support and a massive thank you to everyone who has been involved so far 🙂

2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog. I wanted to share it with you 🙂 I am really happy with these stats. Thank you everyone. Have a great new year.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 2,800 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 5 years to get that many views.

Interview in Hull & Installation OCD piece

20121213-163658.jpg

Today we have completed some filming in Hull, we met with Sarah Rounding who is a sufferer of OCD, studying an MA in Visual Arts at Hull and teaching at the Art college in Hull. We conducted a fantastic interview with her and then went to a phone box (which was white, looked ace!) and filmed a OCD visual installation piece on contamination and cleaning.

Sarah’s work is currently tackling themes surrounding her OCD and will be progressing onto lots of more interesting platforms.

Please check our her work and more information at:

Interviews in Manchester

Image

The weekend of 17th and 18th of November, myself, Will and Kellie went to Manchester to film three interviews and continue the ‘What is OCD?’ campaign. Writing this blog, I am still half asleep trying to catch up on the amount of trains we went on :p, great experience though. We started off 9am, travelling to Manchester, Saturday morning, met Nicole. Nicole is such a lovely person, who’s interview was amazing. I really enjoyed the experience and hope to keep in touch with her :).

Next we met Stephanie, who again was an amazing individual. She has and is still doing so much for OCD, mental health and the community. Her interview was too excellent, and really inspirational as it is a success story which, is so encouraging to know we can recover from OCD.

Sunday, Will and I conducted a follow up interview with Nathan, whom we have interviewed earlier on in the year. He is an exceptional guy, still running his amazing blog,

http://ocdfree.tumblr.com

and he is also a musician who is doing excellently and rightly so, anyone interested please check them out

Nathan is joining us on the Peaks Challenge and his story will run throughout the documentary.

After this interview, we went into Manchester where the Christmas markets are and conducted some ‘What is OCD?’ questions, this was interesting and I am enjoying hearing peoples answers and spreading the word.

It has been a great weekend, hope you enjoy the pictures.
